Troubleshooting Tips
Each year, many of our trouble reports are from customers with inside wiring failures or broken telephone equipment from third party vendors. To save time and expense, you may wish to use the following simple troubleshooting tips to determine the source of the problem.
To determine if you have a problem with your telephone
- Unplug the phone with trouble and plug in a working phone (if you have more than one). If the replacement phone works, the trouble is probably with the first telephone. If not, it may be your inside wiring.
- Pine Tree Networks service connections are provided at a network interface device (NID). A NID is a gray box usually located outside your home or business near the power meter. Using a telephone that you know is not the trouble (see above) take the telephone to the NID and plug it in to see if the problem still exists.
- If the problem no longer exists, the trouble is probably with your inside wiring, telephones, or other attached equipment. You can repair the equipment yourself, hire a private contractor or third party vendor, or contact Pine Tree Networks repair service and we will be happy to make the necessary repairs. Our repair service can provide you with our inside wire rates and materials and equipment charges. Contact our repair service.
- If a problem still exists, the trouble is probably in the telephone line and you should report the trouble online.
